ironwork with pears

this painting uses colour more intensely than I had ever used it before. I decided to build the volumes with strokes of colour rather than with washes so the pears gradually drew me far into the light and dark quality of the hues. by contrast, the 'heavy' ironwork of the decorative plant stand provides a lightly painted divider for the image divisions.
